How to add a new language to WebSuite using manual translation

Step 1: Pick your language URL postfix

What to do

  1. Choose a simple postfix for the language website
  2. Examples: /french/ or /spanish/ or /irish/
  3. Keep it lowercase, no spaces

This postfix becomes the web address for the translated version of the site.

Step 2: Go to your main website settings

What to do

  1. Open the main website in WebSuite (your default site)
  2. Click the Gear button area
  3. Go through the 2 gears flow
  4. Click General Settings

This is where the clone tool lives.

Step 3: Clone the website for the new language

What to do

  1. Scroll down to Clone this website
  2. Enter your postfix, like /irish/
  3. Click Clone
  4. Wait until the clone is created

You now have a separate copy of the same website, just under a new URL.

Step 4: Open the cloned language website

What to do

  1. Open the cloned website version you created (example: the /irish/ website)
  2. Confirm you are editing the clone and not the main site

From this point on, you will translate content inside the clone only.

Step 5: Translate the cloned website content manually

What to do

  1. Go page by page and replace English text with the target language
  2. Update the header menu labels
  3. Update footer text and links if needed
  4. Update buttons, forms, and small labels

Manual translation is the clean option when clients want full control of wording and tone.

Step 6: Clean up translations inside the cloned website

What to do

  1. While inside the cloned website, go to Apps
  2. Click Translations
  3. Delete all translations you do not need
  4. Keep only one translation option that goes back to English
  5. Name it English or Back to English

This stops the cloned website from showing a bunch of extra languages and keeps it simple for users.

Step 7: Connect the cloned URL to the main website language switch

What to do

  1. Go back to the main website (English site)
  2. Go to Apps > Translations
  3. Click Add Language
  4. Select the language (example: Irish)
  5. Choose Load another URL as the method
  6. Enter the postfix: /irish/ (or the full URL if it asks for it)
  7. Click Save or Add

Now the main website sends visitors to the cloned language site when they pick that language.

Step 8: Test the language switch both ways

What to do

  1. Open the main website in a new tab
  2. Use the language switcher to select the new language
  3. Confirm it loads the /irish/ website
  4. On the /irish/ website, use the switcher to go back to English
  5. Confirm it returns to the main website

This confirms the setup works end to end, with no weird loops.

Common issues

What to check

  1. If the new language opens a broken page, the postfix might be wrong or the clone did not finish
  2. If the cloned site still shows extra languages, go back to Apps > Translations inside the clone and delete them
  3. If some parts are still English, check reusable blocks and edit them inside the cloned website
  4. If the main site switcher does not move to the clone, confirm you selected Load another URL and saved it

Most of the time it is either the wrong website being edited, or the URL postfix not matching.
